Magical Gum

Dubbed the “Queen of Gum,” Seigel helped pioneer the revival of gum bichromate with innovations simplifying this most painterly of the 19th-century photographic processes, which mixes pigment into sensitizer to create ethereal to fauvist effects. Her gum images and writings in her publication, The World Journal of Post-Factory Photography (1998-2004), were reproduced and cited in the foundational books of the day by Christopher James, Christina Z. Anderson and Lyle Rexer.
